Ice rescues continue into April, only this one with a twist

A complicated ice rescue took place this week near Spokane, WA when an adult moose fell through the ice at Newman Lake. Wearing Ice Commander Ice Rescue Suits, rescue team members were able to pull the moose out of the water and back to shore in a two-hour rescue effort. Read more and view video of the rescue in this KHQ news report.

Ice Floe Rescue in Ohio

A massive rescue took place on Lake Erie over the weekend when more than 130 ice fishermen found themselves trapped on an ice floe that had broke away from the shore. Wearing Ice Commanders and MSD900 Breathable Immersion Work Suits, rescuers spent four hours getting people back to shore.

Nice reach

Steve Chambers reaches to net his brother\'s silverGreat reach is shown here by Steve Chambers, one of our Security & Rescue Business Development Representatives, as he nets a nice salmon last week. Decked out in Ice Rider waist pants (MP4235) and Integrity Flotation Bomber Jacket (MJ6224), Steve enjoyed a great day of fishing with his brother and nephews. Have a boating picture or story of your own you’d like to share? Send it to media@mustangsurvival.com with the subject “OutThere” and we’ll get it up here on the web. Water Rescue Dry Suit Video

Back in July we spent some time on the Thompson River filming our water rescue dry suits and pfds in action with our friends from Rescue Canada.  We cleaned up the footage and are happy to show you the final version so you can see first hand performance and hear what rescuers like about our gear.

For more information on the gear in the video, check out our Water Rescue web page.

Swiftwater Video Shoot

Swift Water Rescue VideoLast Thursday, Frank and I were up before dawn and made the 3 ½ hour trek to Lytton BC for a day of video and photo shooting on the Thompson River. One of our favourite ways to let people know how Mustang products work is to show them first hand. You have probably watched our Ice Commander video or one of our Rescue Stick videos and soon you’ll be able to learn more about our water rescue products.

Instructors from Rescue Canada, one of our training partners, volunteered their time to help us demonstrate the performance of our water rescue products. Michael, Joe, Jamie and Vincent used our MSD577 SR and MSD575 WR dry suits, MSL351 dry suit liner and MRV100 and MRV200 water rescue vests as they showed their skills in moving water . I was truly amazed to see the ability that these guys possessed swimming in a river so well known for white water rafting. Here are a few pics of the guys and the moving water they faced.

Special thanks to our friends at Hyak River Rafting, for taking care of on the Thompson, Jim Lavalley and Rescue Canada for bringing the group together,
Logie, Hamish and Paul from Hyak for their help as well. Thank you to Eric and Andy for the photography and videography respectively.

Ram-Air Gear Dryer

Mustang Survival\'s Ice Commander on Ram-Air DryerFDIC was a great opportunity for Mustang to hear feedback from so many people who use our gear as part of their job. It was also a chance for us to learn about other products that would interest people that use our gear.

One of those products that I came across at FDIC was the Ram-Air Gear Dryer, a vertical dryer used by Fire Departments to quickly dry gear after use and have ready for the next mission. I stopped by the Ram-Air booth and met with company president, Lance Dornn, to see one of the dryers for myself.

Lance uses Mustang’s Ice Commander Ice Rescue Suit to demonstrate how his company’s dryers work. Instead of using heat, the Ram-Air Dryer uses pressure forced, ambient air which can even get into those hard to reach places including the insides of gloves! The dryer has an automatic timer that can be set for up to 12 hours so that you can control drying time based on what type of gear needs to be dried.

Does your department use the Ram-Air Dryer? Leave a comment on OutThere and tell other Mustang users how it works for you!

For more information about Ram-Air and their dryers, visit www.ramairgeardryer.com.

Mustang Survival at FDIC

Since the exhibition opened yesterday afternoon, Mustang Survival’s booth has been packed the entire time. Our team is working hard to answer questions and help people decide which gear best fits their mission.

FDIC is the world’s largest firefighter show and just about takes over Indianapolis for the week. Firefighters from all over the country and around the world come to train and see the latest technology and personal protection equipment. The show takes up the entire convention center including the attached RCA Dome, home to the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.

Mustang\'s Booth at FDIC 2008

It’s great to hear people tell me about how much they love their Mustang gear. Some come with their stories of how our products have worked for them and others are looking for solutions to their water rescue equipment needs.

This year, as departments prepare for the flooding that follows the spring thaw, many are stopping by to check out our Water Rescue Gear and learn more about the MSD577 SR, our dry suit designed specifically for water rescue.

If you find yourself at FDIC this year, stop by booth 534 and check us out!

Ice Commander Video

If you remember back in February I went to Ice Rescue Training at Lifesaving Resources in New Hampshire to shoot a new video for the Mustang Survival Ice Commander. The editing is now complete and we can share the video with you.

You can see other of our videos on our YouTube Channel. We’d love to hear your feedback on this or any of our other videos.
