Founded in Vancouver by Irv Davies, Mustang Survival is known officially as Mustang Sportswear Ltd. The first product was the Style-100 Navy Blue Floater Coat. |

John Wayne calls Mr. Davies from Pender Island: "This is John Wayne speaking…I’ve got to get one of those {damn} jackets of yours. A buddy of mine got one here and it’s the greatest." |

1967 to 1969
Mustang Survival's first office and manufacturing facility is located in historic Gastown at 321 Water Street. The first facility has 2,000 square feet of floor space and a team of 5 employees, which includes Irv's son Dwight, manufactured the coats out of the small downtown Vancouver factory.

Mustang relocates to 40 Powell Street as increasing sales necessitate a larger factory for a work force that has grown to 40 employees.

Mustang relocates to 540 Beatty Street.

The Mustang Style–1600 Vest becomes the first Canadian Coast Guard Approved PFD coat. |

1975 to 1979
Mustang secures its first US Coast Guard Approval and the US Coast Guard begins using its products.

1977
Mustang partners with the University of Victoria to develop and produce the Thermofloat Coat. Mustang wins a Design Canada Award for the Thermofloat. (Uvic Thermofloat 1).

1980
Dwight Davies, having been part of Mustang since 1967, becomes President of the company. Mustang moves again – this time to its current location at 3810 Jacombs Road, Richmond, BC. The 75,000 square feet facility remains the Mustang headquarters to this day.

Canada 1, Canada’s first America Cup entry, competes wearing Mustang products. |

Mustang wins its first life preserver government contract to produce underarm life preservers (LPU).

1985
Mustang establishes a US subsidiary and opens its first US office in Bellingham.
Mustang redesigns the original floater coat by developing the Must Move Technology, which allowes for greater movement when wearing the coat. |

1986
Mustang launches its Ocean Class Series in the pages of Pacific Yachting.

1988
Mustang Nomex/Gore-Tex Suit and Aircrew Inflatable Device are developed. |

1989
Mustang’s research division, M.E.T.A. Research Inc is conceived as a state of the art research and development division. |

Mustang invents Buoyant Snowmobile Wear – Ice Rider by Mustang. |

1990
Mustang Industries Inc. changes its name to Mustang Engineered Technical Apparel Corporation and enters the recreational and professional PFD (Personal Flotation Device) market. Later the name is reverted to the recognizable name it holds today, Mustang Survival Corporation. |

Mustang receives ISO 9001 certification.

Mustang launches Sea Rider jacket for the personal water craft (PWC) market.

Mustang Survival is awarded the NASA contract to co-develop and supply inflatable life preservers for the NASA Space Shuttle Program.
Mustang, in collaboration with Boeing, develops a Chemical-Biological-Cold Water Immersion Garment for the life support system of a F-22 fighter. |

1997 Drawing on its experience with military inflatable life jackets, Mustang Survival introduces Coast Guard approved Airforce by Mustang inflatable PFD's to North American commercial markets. |

1999
Mustang acquires Wirt Inflatables in West Virginia and sets up another office in Elizabeth, West Virginia. |

2001
Mustang is awarded the contract to develop aircrew ensembles for the US Navy under the Future Naval Capability Program.

2004
Mustang launches its newest technology, the Inflatable PFD with Life-saving Inflatable Flotation Technology - L.I.F.T., which provides 80% fewer mouth immersions - greatly reducing the risk of drowning. |

2005
Mustang introduces the low maintenance Inflatable PFD with HIT which won't inflate inadvertently due to rain, wash or spray. The product is recognized with the 2006 NMMA Innovation Award for Safety. |

2007
Mustang launches the Rescue Stick throwable emergency rescue inflatable. The product is recognized with the 2007 NMMA Innovation Award for Safety. |
